My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! My name is Clarisse. I am a 5-year-old, female, full-blooded Tijuana Shepherd mix weighing around 30 lbs. I am here because The Cantu Foundation rescued me from Tijuana. They found out that I was abandoned by my family, and had been a street dog since. I was found laying down in the dirt in a horrible state. I was malnourished and had severe mange. It’s been hard but thanks to this organization, it has not only saved my life but also helped me keep a positive attitude throughout my rehabilitation. I am mostly potty trained, I have had a few accidents when left alone. I am great on a leash! However, I am not crate trained.
If I could use only a few words to describe myself it would be, loving, loyal, and curious. I am a medium-low energy doggo. I love to go everywhere with my hooman and I follow at their heels throughout the house. I am the work from home dream dog. I nap while you work, will come to check in for some cuddles once in a while, I may want a mid day walk to get you away from the desk, and isn't demanding while you are on conference calls. I love walkies and I do very well off leash in controlled areas. I don't have a ton of endurance and my little legs get tired out quickly so I prefer more frequent, shorter walkies (my foster has been doing 3, <30 min walks a day). I love going out and about with my hooman on car rides, to the coffee shop, to dinner, and is happy to sit under the table and watch the world go by. I definitely have some boundaries and am not immediately comfortable with strangers touching me. Because of my horrible past, there are some flinches when a hand comes towards me (especially my back end) My foster has noticed I seem to like women more than men. I will get super attached to my main hooman as I am to my foster than her other family members at home. I am so loyal to my hooman...I am a one person dog and I want to be everywhere with my person. I hate water, but I still curl up on the bathroom rug while my hooman is in the shower. BUT we've been working on this and I’ve been getting more comfortable going out to check out the yard on my own or hanging with someone else in the other room instead. My curiosity helps and I have started to leave my hooman to check on the action somewhere else in the house. I am still learning how to play, but I have decided squeaky toys are pretty great and I’ve even done a couple zoomies lately! Even though I love other doggos, I am not a huge fan of big/rough/high energy doggos and I get a little intimidated or I try to boss them for getting too riled up. I love little hoomans! I hope to meet you soon and give you all the love!
My perfect furever home would be a quieter home where I can relax and feel safe but with someone who takes me to a lot of different places. Other mellow doggos would be ok. My foster thinks I would like being in a family with older, respectful kids. My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering and vetting care.
