My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

KIRA & KAPRI - BONDED PAIR

Kira - Terrier Mix, Kapri - Jack Russell Mix | Small (11-14 lbs.)   | 1 to 1 1/2 Years Old/ Female-Spayed  | Accepting Applications for Adoption

Hi, I am Kapri and this is my sister Kira. We are a year to a year and a half old Terrier/Jack Russell mixes. Before coming into rescue we were living on the streets until a really nice lady found us and a I Dream of Home Rescue took us in. Living on the streets was so scary and we were hungry all of the time. We itched and hurt and never felt safe. When our foster moms told us our rescue story they said that we were so sweet that it seemed like every flea and tick out there wanted to hang out with us, and we figure that may be true since at least 30 ticks were pulled off of each of us when we were rescued. Kira was so matted that they had to shave half of her body to remove the matting, which is good because they hurt her, and a lot of fleas liked to hide in there. We were extremely underweight, malnutritioned, dirty and covered in scabs.

We were anxious when we first came into rescue and had trouble trusting the world. It has not always been kind to us and had taught us not to trust. We didn’t know how to walk on a leash, where to go potty and always scavenged for food. Our foster moms told us none of that was our fault and we’ve tried really hard to learn quickly. We are already doing much better on the leash and although potty training is a work in progress, we have gotten much better (we mostly potty outdoors and on our potty-pads, but occasionally have accidents still, remember this new wonderful life is all so new to us). As long as someone is home with us we are extremely quiet and hardly make a sound. We do get a little anxious though when both of our foster parents leave, and we bark and whine for a while and eventually settle down- the length of time that we do this has reduced a ton! As long as we have lots of bones and toys to play with we won't chew any of your stuff, we promise!

We are great with dogs, when we first moved in and were really excited about the four cats in our new home (they ran so fast!), we have learned to live peacefully with all four of the cats. We can be a little shy with new people at first but we hope you understand why, but once we learn to trust you, you have our whole hearts. We haven’t been around kids since coming into rescue, but our fosters think we would be good with them. All we want to do is snuggle, cuddle, and be close to the humans in our lives. We are both big time cuddle bugs and have already taken over our foster moms bed- we are happiest when we are spending time with them. We do have a lot of energy, but we are really good at entertaining ourselves and each other (we love a good walk though!). We have done everything together and rely on each other so it is really important to us that we go to the same home - our rescue promised they won't separate us! The world has been scary enough even when we have stuck together, and we can’t imagine life without each other. One thing we hope for more than anything else is that we find our family and that we get to have a place to finally call our own. Our foster mom's assure us that our family is out there, and we really hope you're reading this now.
