My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Eleanor “Ellie”
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: About 1 year
WEIGHT: About 7 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend an all adult home

Introducing adorable Eleanor (or “Ellie” for short). This beautiful girl was named after Eleanor Roosevelt, a strong and beautiful first lady in our country’s history. Ellie is strong, bold and dynamic to be around. She fits the role of a first lady well!

Ellie found herself in a local shelter as an owner surrender because the owner became very ill and was unable to care for her any longer. Evidently the situation had been rough for a while because Ellie was covered with fleas and had really long nails when she arrived at the shelter. CRT spotted this sweetheart and immediately knew she would be perfect for our program. And she has not disappointed us. She has adjusted well. Some family is going to hit the jackpot with this girl.

Ellie enjoys the other small dogs in her foster home. She enjoys playing with them and interacting with them. Note that Ellie is a leader and as such, wants to be the leader of the pack. She will need companions who are strong enough to stand their ground with her, but also willing to let her lead. Ellie LOVES toys. She plays with toys all day. She loves to collect all the toys in the house and play, play, play. She will keep herself entertained for hours with her toys. Her favorite are balls – she loves to play catch.

Ellie enjoys time in the backyard. She loves to go outside and run zoomies in the yard. Her long flowing coat is gorgeous as she runs! She also enjoys sunning herself.

Ellie loves people. She wants to be with you and be a part of the family activity. Ellie loves to get onto your lap or even snuggle against your chest. Her foster Dad has a big beard (like Santa Claus) and she will tuck up under his beard and snuggle with him. It is the cutest thing we have seen. Ellie is a big love bug and will want to snuggle with you every day.

Ellie is super smart and learning every day. She knows how to “sit”. She has also taught herself how to ring the bells that hang from the backdoor to tell her humans that she has to go outside. We are working on her with more commands and she is very eager to learn.

Our vet estimated Ellie to be one year old, but we think she may be closer to 9 to 10 months. She is very active and has high energy as you would expect in a puppy! Ellie has a long, shiny black coat with a white check. She is stunning.

An ideal home would be a very active home. We believe she would be best with another dog so she has a playmate. Ellie is not apartment appropriate as she barks when she hears noises. She also does not like to be alone. A work at home family would be a perfect match for her. We have noticed that Ellie does some “resource guarding” of her favorite things including her favorite person, favorite toy, etc. She is young and came from a home with several dogs. So she may have had to do this to get her share of attention. We are working on this and she is getting better. But she will need an experienced owner who will continue to work with her on this behavior. Until she improves in this area, we would recommend no children in her forever home.

Ellie is working on her potty training. She is making progress, but occasionally has some accidents in her foster home. She is crate trained and will sleep through the night in her crate. We are beginning to work with her on leash training.

Ellie is being fostered in the DFW (Texas) area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Ellie is spayed, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative and on heartworm prevention. She is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
