My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Vander
GENDER: Male (neutered)
AGE: 6 years (born June 20, 2014)
WEIGHT: About 15 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Gets along with other small dogs, unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Recommend All Adult Home, or home with older, mature children (14 and older)

Meet dashing Vander. Vander is a long coat Chihuahua who is primarily black with white highlights. He is tall and has the cutest ears. He is adorable.

Vander gets along with the large and small dogs in his foster home. The majority of his 4 legged siblings are seniors. Vander enjoys being around them and even tries to initiate play with them. He has great “big brother” instincts and will even step up to “protect” the smaller Chihuahuas from the bigger 100 pound sister by giving her the little warning growl sound! The larger dog takes it in stride. Vander has never been aggressive. He is a leader, and wants to be the leader of his pack. Vander has not shown much interest in toys. We think he would do well as an only dog or a companion comparable to his size and age as we think he would like to play.

Vander loves his family. Vander gets very attached to his humans fairly quickly. He is a very loyal guy. Vander enjoys being around you and will follow you from room to room so he can be part of the family activity. He loves to snuggle and will be up on the couch with you at night watching TV. One unique characteristic about him that we LOVE – he will literally hug you. When you pick him up, he puts both legs around your neck and snuggles in. It just melts our heart.

Vander is about 6 years old (he was born on June 20, 2014). He weighs about 15 pounds which is perfect for his size. Vander has a beautiful flowing long black coat with white highlights. And we love the way his head tilts when you call his name. Note he has recently been to the groomer and she trimmed his coat a bit. So in the professional pictures you are seeing, his coat is a little shorter. It will grow back out and his adopters can keep it as long as they want to keep it.

Vander would do well in a household that is calm and quiet, no loud noises or frequent visitors. There are no children in his foster home but we think he would be fine with older, mature children (14 and older). He has had limited exposure to cats so we are not sure how he might react. Vander does alert to loud sounds (barks when he hears them). For that reason, we do not think he would be apartment appropriate.

Vander is completely potty trained and has not had any accidents in his foster home. He is also crate trained and will sleep through the night in his crate. His favorite place to sleep is curled up in bed with his foster Mom, and he is hoping to find a family where he can continue to do that! Vander loves to go for walks, and get so excited when his foster Mom grabs his harness and invites him to join her. Vander hopes his new family loves to walk as he wants to be your walking buddy.

Vander is being fostered in the DFW area. If this sweet boy sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at HTTP://www.chihuahua-Rescue.com/adoption-application/

Vander is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family, could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $270.63 adoption donation required ($250 adoption donation and $20.63 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
