Ivan has made so much progress since his rescue. At the shelter, he wouldn’t come out of his run. He was freaked out when they tried to leash him up, frantically bolting to escape, gator rolling to avoid being handled, and refusing to be coaxed out of his run with food and even a puppy friend. He wasn’t a candidate for public adoption, so a rescue became his only option.Step one was to get him comfortable with us and step two was to get him on a slip lead. We made slow but steady progress, but it was clear that everything was new and overwhelming to him. We worked on building confidence, trust, and obedience. After months, he was comfortable enough to go for a walk around the neighborhood. After another few months, we started getting him comfortable with getting in a car, which terrified him at first. He can now go on walks with volunteers and enjoys checking out the local message boards.Ivan has had a long road, but we think he’s ready to join a family: a family who understands that he's still fearful of the unknown and he’s going to need help and time to get used to their routine. A family who can show him structure, is patient, and knows that the time they put into working with Ivan will pay off ten fold. A family who can show Ivan there are people who consider dogs part of the family and don’t just leave them outside until they decide to dump them at shelters. A family who will love him and get a loyal companion in return. 💙

The minimum adoption donation for adults is $375 and the adoption donation for puppies is $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. The adoption donation provides that all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis ( i.e., puppies who will need to be altered by 6 mos old). Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.December 10, 2023, 5:33 am

More about this rescue

Coastal German Shepherd Rescue of Southern California is a non-profit 501(c)3 public charity dedicated to finding loving homes for abandoned German Shepherds. Your tax deductible donations go to support these very deserving animals. Coastal was formed to serve communities in the counties of San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.

Coastal is dedicated to providing new beginnings for homeless German Shepherds who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, relinquished by their owners or just left at local shelters to await an uncertain future.

We are committed to finding loving permanent homes for the Orphaned dogs in our care. Coastal is an all volunteer, no-kill, non profit organization.

Our mission is to educate the public about German Shepherds, their lifespan, personality, activity level, along with overall responsible dog ownership. We also raise awareness of over population of animals through education, training, spaying and neutering. We work very hard to match each dog with the adoptive families.
