My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Paisley has been an exercise in horsemanship since her arrival in August, 2019. She has consistently proven to be intelligent, sensitive, loving - and simply not for a wannabe horseman.

This beautiful red mare is a 23-year-old registered American Saddlebred (4/24/00) who was dumped for free on Craigslist to a person brand new to horses in the middle of the winter - a combination which nearly resulted in death.

Paisley came to us a BCS 1, but has rehabbed well and maintains her weight on her current feeding program. She requires high fat feed and alfalfa pellets or hay to look her best. She loves cookies, attention and a fixed routine. She was shown in breed-show halter as a young horse, and she does ride, although her age prevents more than short and easy walk/trot.

It took several months of quality care to even get her weight to point that was acceptable to make her available for adoption. She has had a few meetings, but no lifetime connections. Because she has been with us for so long, and she is soundness limited in her abilities, we are at this time (June, 2023) considering her as a sanctuary resident. HOWEVER, should the best long-term foster or best-home adopter come along and fall in love, we would love to place her into that situation.

Fine print: Paisley does not pasture well with other horses , but does fine where she can see others. She currently lives outdoors 24/7 except in bad weather, as she will chew wood when confined. We would consider placing her with a sanctuary foster or adopting her to the perfect retirement home. Please email us (contact@safeharborsanctuary.org) for additional information or fill out an adoption application.

As with all of our horses, Paisley is up to date on deworming, farrier care, vaccinations, and has a current negative Coggins.

Note: Safe Harbor is a foster farm network, all volunteer organization. Adoptable horse listings are cross-posted. If the listing is up, the horse is available. We attempt to answer all common questions within our listings. Additional photos/video can often be found on our Facebook page, @safeharborsanctuary.

ABSOLUTELY NO EMAIL INQUIRES will be answered without an adoption application on file. Tire kickers and unqualified applicants have made this a necessity. If you are interested in a listed horse, review the information on our website and complete an adoption application. Thank you for your understanding.
