My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Drake is an approximately 5 year old black male who came from a shelter in upstate New York. Sadly Drake has tested positive for Heartworm and will need Heartworm treatment. He was recently neutered and will be starting his Heartworm treatment in October once recovered from his neuter. On top of all of that, Drake has a serious happy tail. His foster mom is working hard to heal it and we are hopeful it will not need to be amputated. It will take a good two months of careful wrapping and protection to do that. Drake had a double ear infection and needed antibiotics to treat that. The antibiotics then caused quite the tummy upset. Since then, Drake has had a hard time adjusting to several diets that his foster mom has tried and is suffering with colitis. His foster mom is working on finding the right combination of foods, probiotics and supplements to get that under control. Despite all these issues, Drake is so sweet! He loves everyone and gets along with all the dogs in his foster home. He is constantly wagging that long strong tail and hence the challenge of keeping it bandaged. The current methods seem to be working. Once Drake starts his Heartworm treatment he will need to be on crate rest and limited activity for at least two months. Drake certainly has been a challenge to care for but is worth all the efforts on his behalf, he is an absolute love and whoever is lucky enough to take him home will have a wonderful Dane companion. Drake came to MAGDRL in September of 2020 (3).
