Meet Dakota, also known as Kota. She was born on August 4, 2019, she is 16 months old and still has lots of puppy energy in her. Dakota is a smaller, female black tri Australian Shepherd weighing in at 38lbs. Dakota knows sit, laydown, knows her name, walks well on leash and has her bachelor’s degree in potty training and crate training. She is a TOTAL snugglebug and will curl right up in your lap to take a nap or watch TV.
Before coming to rescue, Dakota was in a home that didn’t understand her personality or her exercise needs and Dakota was running the household. Dakota needs a strong human leader in her forever home that will set her boundaries and understand that she needs BOTH mental and physical stimulation EACH day.
Kota really likes to play with other dogs! She is super playful when it comes to meeting other dogs too, sometimes so much that she wants to bark and run towards them to play. She has been working on this behavior in her foster home. Dakota also doesn’t have the best sharing manners, so sometimes she likes to guard her food and toys. She has been working REALLY hard on this in her foster home and doing GREAT! This training will NEED to continue in Kota’s new home. Kota is not good with cats, so she needs a home with NO cats.
Dakota loves to go for car rides and loves to play fetch. She might make a GREAT frisbee or rally dog! Kota has also been exposed to the grandchildren in her foster home and she likes them, but because of her guarding the things that she thinks are hers, we recommend a home without young children.
Dakota’s Forever home MUST HAVE’s:
Mom or dad WITH prior Aussie experience
Strong human leader willing to continue her training
Mental and physical stimulation
Physical Fenced yard (no electronic fences)
NO cats

Dakota is spayed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations. Kota also takes monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm. She will need to be on heartworm prevention year round and flea and tick prevention depending on the weather and local vet recommendations.
