My story

Smudgie, DSH, spayed B&W tuxedo female. Vaccines/rabies current. DOB 7/30/20.

PFC is now charging an adoption fee. 75.00 for a female and 50 for a male. However, our kitties who were vetted before this change are still adoption fee free.

Smudgie is a beautiful, loving young cat with a gorgeous long tail! She loves to cuddle. She also enjoys toys, boxes, playing games with the humans (like “come find me behind the door”) and licking yogurt bowls. She is very vocal when it comes time to eat or to get out of a room she has gotten stuck in (occasionally she closes a door and locks herself in). She has a cute black “peace patch” under her chin that makes her look a bit like a female Charlie Chaplin. She weighs approximately 8 lb. She also loves to play with her mama (Diamond) and would love to be adopted with her but would probably also do fine by herself.

In her foster home she is great with the other cats and the dog. Her first adopter found her very sweet with humans but their other cat and their dog just could not adjust to her so they had to return her to us. Be prepared to be patient and introduce any other pets to her slowly. Cats can take a month to adjust.

You will need to submit an adoption application before discussing adopting this sweet girl. She is with Stephanie in Conover. Call Stephanie at 828-994-1100 with any questions concerning Smudgie. Email the application to Our adoption application can be found at: It’s an adobe fill in form if opened in Adobe reader.

Partners for Cats does not currently charge an adoption fee. We feel this is a better way of finding more homes for more kitties. However, we operate on donations, with no other income. If you adopt one of our kitties, and can afford to, we would appreciate any donation you can make to help defray the cost of vetting these beautiful animals. We will never ask you for money when we turn a cat/kitten over to you.

Why adoption is a great option

Smudgie, a Morganton American Shorthair cat was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a American Shorthair for sale in Morganton, or seeking a American Shorthair cat from a breeder in Morganton.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Morganton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Morganton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even American Shorthair breeders who help with American Shorthair rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Morganton paves the way for another one to be saved.
