My story

We just love Dixie's blaze and her one white sock; what a fashion statement! Dixie is a 30-year-old Mustang who is looking for a loving home where she can live out the rest of her days as a companion to other horses. She enjoys the company of her pasture mates, and you can usually find her tagging along behind them! She isn't too sure about new people, but she's slowly building confidence. We love to watch Dixie go about her business; she likes to pretend she isn't watching us, but we think she's sneaking glances to see what we're up to! If you'd like to inquire about adopting Dixie, email adoptions@ashevillehumane.org! Dixie is waiting on the right person to adopt her!

More about this shelter

Asheville Humane Society is about hope, not heartache. As Buncombe County’s critical safety net since 1984, we are always here to save and protect every animal. We have mastered the art of saving lives within our walls and now we are going even further, helping our community’s pets and their people thrive together. We are going beyond a no-kill community to ensure that each animal has the quality of life they deserve – a life worth living.
