My story

Update 1/11/23: Sunny's doing great & ready to be adopted into a nice, happy aviary, please. She is a good flock citizen with striking good Homer pigeon looks. One thing, she & her mate are some of the most non-nest-building pigeons I've ever seen. Even when they have good nesty stuff to build with, they're like, Nope. We're good. (We of course trade out their real eggs for fakes, nest or no nest.)

Update 8/2021: Sunny is partnered with racing survivor Cricket!

Update 12/28/20: Sunny is recovering from injuries and has enough stitches to be a frankenpigeon but is bouncing back nicely and would love to find a forever home. Likes: her pigeon block, watching the world, listening to songs. Dislikes: hands in her space, yucky meds for her injuries (even though she takes them fine, just grumbles about it). She is sassy but surprisingly neat with her seeds for a pigeon. She eats almost everything in the seed mix and doesn't fling food about the way most pidges fling it like confetti.

This is Sunny, the “dove release” Homer pigeon who, likely flying home from a wedding or funeral, suffered a brutal predator attack and dropped into the backyard of a kind human. Sunny's wounds have required emergency hospitalization and we are grateful to everyone who has helped her so far, from her rescuer to the Palomacy volunteers who stepped in to assess and transport her, to the veterinarians now providing her with expert care. Sunny now has a chance to survive and live her life. We'll provide more updates soon. Please apply to adopt http://www.pigeonrescue.org/birds/apply-to-foster-or-adopt/November 28, 2023, 7:09 am

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require an online adoption application, phone screen & home visit and offer lots of support and coaching all along the way. Our adoption fee is $10/bird and our expectations for adopters are:
-Appropriately sized, safe and uncrowded cage or aviary approved by Palomacy
-Supervised, safe out-of-cage time (if not living in an aviary) daily
-No free flight/uncaged outside time
-Protection from hazards including but not limited to escape, pets, predators, fumes and toxins
-Companionship- lots of your time or another bird's (not home alone)
-Avian vet care if sick or injured
-Compassionate, healthy care that provides for the bird's nutritional (including lighting), physical and emotional well-being
-No breeding, birth control if bird has a mate (real eggs replaced with fakes which we provide)
-A forever home (through sickness and health, for better or worse) with a pet-care plan in place should something happen to you
-No selling, sporting or business use of birds
-Return to Palomacy if unable to keep the bird (This is not desired- we expect that you are providing a forever home!)

Go meet their pets

We are a volunteer-powered rescue and our birds are lovingly cared for in the private homes and backyard aviaries of our foster volunteers. Potential adopters can make appointments to meet our birds and we are at adoption & outreach events almost every weekend. See our Events page at www.PigeonRescue.org and visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/PigeonDiplomacy/ for details.

More about this rescue

Palomacy Pigeon & Dove Adoption saves homeless domestic (unreleasable) pigeons and doves in the SF/Bay Area from euthanasia by providing veterinary care, foster and forever homes.

Palomacy fills a deadly gap in the animal welfare community by saving the lives of domestic/unreleasable doves and pigeons that would otherwise be killed. We're volunteer-powered, donation supported and culture changing! By providing avian vet care, foster and forever homes, we've saved more than 700 birds' lives since 2007.
