My story

Gracie is located in TEXAS. There are not enough homes for all the unwanted dogs down there, so she is willing to relocate for a good, loving, forever home.

Gracie was saved from a fast kill, small-town dog pound. She is a Blue Lacy Mix, 3-1/2 years old, and weighing 40 pounds. She has the distinctive Lacy bark. We discovered that she had already been spayed and had a microchip (the pound did not scan her). The contact for her microchip had "rehomed" her, and that person never updated the chip. Her original owner says that she had to rehome Gracie because she was growling at the kids. We think this was probably because she was guarding a treat. She has growled (more like a grumble) at her foster mom, but it is all a bluff and she has never done anything more than grumble. If we really want to get something away from her we have used a "grabber" and she protests but does not get aggressive. Gracie guards her food and treats from other dogs, so we feed and give her treats in her crate. We don't give her rawhides or similar treats because she sits and guards them rather than eats them.

Gracie is housetrained, crate trained, and knows how to sit. She is fairly low-energy and loves to be in the house. Gracie likes to run and explore, ride in the car, and go for walks. She also likes to be outside to sun herself, bark at squirrels, dig, and the occasional dip in the wading pool. Gracie loves scratches and pets. She gives kisses and we've seen her play by throwing her chew bone in the air and chasing it.

Gracie would do best as an only dog. She gets along best and will play with male dogs. She does well with some females and doesn't like others. She may be initially aggressive with a new dog then is okay with them after a few days. Gracie is very food motivated and loves to eat. Her portions must be monitored. Again, Gracie guards her food and treats from other dogs, so she must always be separate from other dogs when she gets food and treats. Gracie would be a fabulous companion for a single person or older couple. She must be in the house as a loved member of the family. She must have a securely fenced yard to run and play.

Gracie is healthy. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. She is negative for heartworms and on monthly heartworm and flea preventative. Gracie has a $500.00 adoption fee that includes the cost of ground transport to Strasburg VA or Hagerstown MD. She is being fostered in Texas and will not be sent north until after she is adopted.
