8lb, 5 year old Grant is a fun loving, energetic, spicy little boy. With a short black and tan coat, ears with a mind of their own, and enough personality for 3 dogs, we guess he is a mix of chihuahua, miniature pinscher, dachshund, terrier, or something in between.
Grant is most often found bouncing around the house gathering up any toy in sight, or relentlessly asking the other dogs to play. He acts like a puppy and gets along with tolerant dogs that match his energy.
Originally a stray with an unknown past, he can be unsure of new people and will mouth or nip at hands and feet that move too quickly towards him, and although this behavior is mild at the moment, we strongly urge his new family to enroll in some positive reinforcement obedience and behavior training. We do not believe he will be a match for homes with children or cats at this time, but he has the potential to be a great family dog with the right guidance. Currently, he will bite out of fear when being picked up, but if someone sits on the ground he will often crawl into their lap and allow being picked up that way. He just needs time and consistency to overcome his fear.
Grant would make a great agility, flyball, or barn hunt dog - he definitely needs plenty of exercise and a job!
He is a healthy boy - up to date on vaccines, neutered, microchipped, and has had a recent dental with full bloodwork. All he needs now is a great adopter with the energy to match!
