My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Jack Russell Terrier Mix
Age: approx. 3 years
Male, Neutered
22 lbs

Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations)

Tramp was confiscated by Oakland Animal Services due to a violation of in-home quarantine. Tramp bit someone while running loose and the family was instructed to keep him secured for 2 weeks (legally mandated in-home rabies quarantine if a dog bites). Animal control officers found him running loose during his quarantine, so he was taken to the shelter for quarantine. There were multiple dogs and puppies in the home. Tramp’s owners refused to pay the appropriate fees to get him back (which included vaccinations and neutering), so he was surrendered. Although he was very shy and scared, Tramp made some progress with the shelter volunteers, but not enough that regular rescue groups would take him, so the shelter contacted Nobody’s Perfekt Dogs Rescue. We put him into foster care.

Tramp struggled getting comfortable in a new setting. He was very fearful of street noises. His first instinct was to try and escape (which he did, but not far). Once we got him into a quiet, secure environment inside the foster home, he eventually loosened up and starting bonding with his foster dad - but it took a number of days. We thought he might immediately bond with one or two of the foster family’s dogs, but it took 2-3 weeks before he showed interest in interacting with the other dogs.

Even though his “go to” defense is just freezing up when he is fearful, every once in a while we see his Jack Russell Terrier personality come through (high energy).

Tramp will need to go to a home (house) in a quiet neighborhood with a high fenced-in backyard. He seems to bond with family members that he doesn’t perceive as the “pack-leader.” He can be intimidated by someone “in charge.” He is very high energy and will need another dog in the home that can help drain his energy in positive ways. Otherwise, he will turn that energy into destroying household items. He hasn’t shown any proclivity to bite since we pulled him, but he might if he is scared enough and feels cornered.

Please note that we do not adopt any of our dogs out to families with children under the age of 13.
