My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Oliver James is ready for his forever home!! This sweet and beautiful boy is going to make his new family so happy. We think he is an Aussie/Golden Retriever mix and will be somewhere between 45-55lb once he fills out.

Oliver is about 9 months old and has the energy to match for playtime, but is a mild-mannered boy overall. While he will need daily exercise, he does great at settling and relaxing with his family when the time comes. He is the happiest boy to see you when you’ve been away or sleeping and will shower you with kisses and the cutest little happy snorts.

Oliver exhibited some resource guarding of toys and food with our dogs when he first came to us. This has really improved but not fully resolved, so for this reason Oliver should go to a home with owners experienced with resource guarding and/or other mild mannered pooches. He gets along famously with his 10-month old foster sister and will romp and play with her ’til the cows come home. We think he could also be happy in a single-dog home as long as he gets his daily exercise, whether it be playing in the yard or a good walk/run! Oliver has not been tested with cats and has met older teenagers and did very well. We think a home with older kids would be safest, as he can play a little rough sometimes. Oliver has exhibited some “stranger-danger” barking, but in every instance has approached the person with encouragement and has gladly accepted pats from them. He is responsive to his name and has had great recall from our fenced backyard to the house, even when distracted. He will do best with a fenced in yard with room for romping!

Oliver continues to do well on leashed walks but does have room to improve, as he is very interested in people and other dogs passing by. One thing Oliver will need continued focused work with is his separation anxiety, specifically with crate training. He is so calm that he may not need to be crated at night (tested with us, he does great) or when his family is out of the house (not yet tested with us), but it does cause him significant stress to be crated for any amount of time past what it takes him to eat meals or finish the treats and chewies in there. Oliver is a wonderful pooch and is going to be a fantastic companion!!!

Oliver is up to date on his vaccinations, heartworm negative, on monthly preventatives, neutered and microchipped. He is being fostered in the St. Louis, MO area and interested adopters must be willing to travel there to meet him.
