My story

Remy has been at the shelter a total of 601 days (as of 9/1/22). This is very saddening. Here is what her bio read when she first got here:
Remy is a little over a year old and 35 pounds. Her mother was a stray who gave birth on someone’s land and this is where she grew up, but the land owners did not take care of her (or her brother Ranger).  Not only was Remy's skin in horrible condition when she got here but she was very thin and afraid. She tested positive for Ehrlichia (tick disease) and has finished her treatment for that. We also fattened her up (to a healthy size!). Remy is very shy and timid with strangers but warms up after a few visits. Remy loves to get her belly scratched and to cuddle.  Now all Miss Remy needs is a human she can trust, love and call family.

Remy is now 2.5 years old and 45 lbs ... and is still VERY scared. This is why she has not found a forever home. No one will take the time to help this poor girl and give her a chance. With those people who Remy is comfortable with, she wants nothing but to be held and cuddled. She will do that with anyone willing to take her home and give her time to adjust. Remy needs someone who is up for a challenge; a challenge that will not only change her life, but theirs as well. She needs a special someone who will take her in and be patient with her while she learns that she is safe and she is loved and she is HOME!

If you would like to meet this sweet gal and give her a loving home, please go to www.schspets.org to complete an adoption application and we will contact you to arrange a visit and/or answer any questions! The application is located under the ADOPT tab in the menu.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
