My story

STAR is a foster-based rescue. All our rescue animals stay in foster homes until adoption. We do not have a central facility. If you want to meet any of our adoptables please submit an application.

Hi! My name is Chica!

I am about 5 or 6 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. My foster mom says I am a happy-go-lucky girl and a joy to have around. I always know how to make her smile. I have lived with kids in the past but honestly I'd probably prefer to just be the only pet so I can get the undivided attention I deserve :) Some people call me a "low rider" because I kind of have a pitty face, but short beagle legs and body. I guess that also makes me "cute" because I get called that a lot as well!

To tell you a little bit about where I came from, I used to live life outside on a chain, no matter the weather. My old owners didn't take the best care of me. The amazing volunteers at STAR found me sick and weak, suffering from heatstroke. They got me surrendered and rushed me to the emergency vet. I was treated for dehydration, a severe UTI infection and they also discovered I had a heartworm infection. All of this took a toll on my body and I'm greatful they rescued me just in time and got me all fixed up so Im ready for a home of my own!

One of my favorite "go-to" snacks is pill pockets, even though I really don't need to take medications anymore.  I also really love to chew on bones and bully sticks, and generally I don't chew on things that aren't mine and I don't tend to destroy my stuffed toys. I walk pretty well on a leash, but I don't get too much practice since currently I have a fenced in yard.

If you are interested in meeting me and taking care and loving me, please fill out an application or you can email my foster mom at heather@savingtailsanimalrescue.org My adoption fee has been sponsored! and includes all my vetting up to date, some food and treats, toy, leash and collar.

Thank you for considering a special girl like me to let me live out my golden years.

All STAR animals come vetted, Up to Date (UTD) on age appropriate shots and testing, spay and neutered (if of age,) and microchipped.
AGE DISCLAIMER: Unfortunately, most of the orphaned animals that come into our rescue looking for homes don’t bring birth certificates. Sometimes we know our pets’ ages. Sometimes we don’t. So we make our best guess based on the condition of their teeth and the veterinarians best guess.   BREED DISCLAIMER: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label . Microchips: For the safety of our dogs and peace of mind of our fosters and adopters, STAR microchips all dogs prior to adoption with Petlink Microchips. Please understand that all dogs MUST still wear a collar with ID tags (which include your current information) AT ALL TIMES. Please remember, our foster dogs are extremely important to us-- we will always take any of our dogs back, if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. Never surrender him/her to a shelter!

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

We begin each adoption with the submission of the application. This step helps us assess the fit, and gives us general information.

2.

Approve Application

Part of approving the application for adoption is a vet check. To make this step go faster contact your vet to approve the release of record

3.

Home Check

Home checks are required and will happen prior to the meet and greet. The home visit can happen at the same time of adoption.

4.

Meet the Pet

The meet and greet is the last step. We will want to meet the family including your current dogs to ensure it will be a good fit.

5.

Sign Adoption Contract

Pay the adoption fee via cash, check or PayPal. Complete the contract with our volunteer and you may take the pet home :)

Additional adoption info

Steps 3,4 & 5 may or may not be combined into one step, depending upon foster and volunteers availability as well as the foster animal being considered.

Go meet their pets

We are foster based which means our rescued animals stay in foster homes until adoption. Keep an eye on our Facebook Page for upcoming adoption events! We attend the Novi Pet Expo in November, Frankenmuth Dog Bowl over Memorial Weekend and The Renaissance Festival in Holly the first weekend each year!

More about this rescue

Saving Tails Animal Rescue is a 501c3 foster-based animal rescue, meaning all of the animals live and stay in volunteer's homes until a forever family is found. All of our animals are fully vetted age appropriately, microchipped and fixed before adoption. Animals come into our care primarily from shelters or owner surrenders.
