My story

We are happy to add Missy to our adoptables!! She has been living at the Our Companions Sanctuary now for almost 6 months and she is now ready for her own home! A favorite of our volunteers, she was voted as the 2021 Class Clown and runner up for the Life of the Paw'ty dog!

She is the cutest black and white pit bull but then we are a bit biased! When she first came to us from a local animal shelter she was just learning to leash walk, to be polite when greeting people. She is still a bit of a work in progress on both of those but she is super smart and is catching on fast! She simply gets so excited to meet new people!

Some of her favorite things are running in one of the play yards-be careful and protect your knees as she is a bit of a bull in a china shop when she gets the zoomies, forgets just how big she is!! After a good work out she is happy to come back in, rest up in her crate, or cuddle on the couch. Like any self respecting pit, she is a hard chewer so tough toys are her fave! She does however take treats very gently so we know she has a soft side too!

She does have some specific requests for her new home-she'd like a single family home (no apartments or condos), be the only animal, active teens or adults, a family that is well versed in pit bull ways, a 5' fence with a yard to run it! She soooo enjoys running in her yard!

Stats: 4 yo, 50 lbs, crate trained.

If you would like to know more about this gorgeous gal please call Our Companions Animal Rescue at 860-242-9999 or e-mail to helpline@ourcompanions.org

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

To begin the adoption process, you can fill out an application for adoption by clicking on the "adoption" tab on our website, www.ourcompanions.org. The OC Adoption Program aims to find a pet who will be the best match for each adopter. To accomplish this we know each animal’s personality and needs and we get to know our adopters and their lifestyles. OC provides our adopters with support from the start of the journey and throughout the animal’s entire life; including pre-adoption counseling, assistance while the animal is settling in and life-long support. Our goal is to find loving homes for our animals and to facilitate individualized adoptions that meet both the adopter’s and animal’s needs. All adoption applicants are assigned a dedicated Adoption Caseworker to work with you throughout the adoption process. During this process you will be asked to complete an Adoption Application, and you can access them on our website, www.ourcompanions.org. How much does it cost to adopt and what’s included? We do not have an adoption fee, but we greatly appreciate a tax-deductible donation to Our Companions at the time of adoption. Cats: $75 or $125/pair Kittens: $125 or $200/pair Dogs/Puppies: $150 All pets are vaccinated, neutered and treated for internal and external parasites. Dogs are tested for Lyme and Heartworm and cats are tested for FeLV and FIV. All dogs come with a discounted 8-week basic obedience course. Contact Us: Email us at Helpline@ourcompanions.org or call us at (860) 242-9999.

More about this rescue

Founded in 2002, Our Companions Animal Rescue is a Connecticut-based nonprofit organization that goes to extraordinary lengths to help animals in need today, while working to prevent animals from becoming homeless tomorrow. We offer a variety of Adoption Services to meet the needs of homeless pets in Connecticut. We know that a proper home exists for most animals- it just takes patience, resources and a commitment to find it. Our Companions offers virtual adoption programs so pets can stay in their original homes while we search for a new family, as well as adoption at the Ashford Sanctuary and regular pet meet-and-greet days at the Valerie Friedman Program Center centrally located in Manchester, CT. Adoption meetings are scheduled by appointment after the application screening process is completed. In addition to adoption services, we are also involved in political advocacy; broad spay/neuter efforts such as TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return); humane education; and positive reinforcement dog training. It’s a long-term, comprehensive approach to ending pet homelessness and suffering. Interested in volunteering at Our Companions? We have many different volunteer positions and opportunities at our program center and sanctuary. Read more about our volunteer program here: http://ourcompanions.org/pages/getinvolved_volunteer.htm Our Companions operates solely on private donations. We rely on donations from supporters to run our many programs. To donate to Our Companions, please follow this link: http://ourcompanions.org/pages/donate.htm
