My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST
This seven-year-old beaut is Oliver, an Australian Shepherd. He is a special boy with special needs. Oliver is deaf. Fortunately, he's also intelligent and already knows multiple hand signals. He responds to visual cues for sit, down, leave it, and good dog. Oliver has lived with another dog in a previous home, but a dog introduction would be mandatory. Oliver was previously surrendered to us due him not doing well with the toddler in the home because of him being deaf. He was adopted and then returned for guarding his resources (treats/food/bones). Even though he is okay with some dogs, his guarding does seem increased with having another dog in the home. He would do best in a home with older children due him being startled easily. Poor Oliver found himself returned to us due him being a bit too much for the home. If you have ever had an Australian Shepherd you know that they need a job to do and Oliver is no exception to this. He would benefit from an active home that would not only give him plenty of exercise, but also mentally stimulate him as well. His previous home described him as friendly with adults and teen-aged children. A home without a lot of hustle and bustle, but one that appreciates the need for dogs like Oliver to be active, will be just the ticket. Deaf dogs who know how to communicate with their humans are a special breed.
