My story

Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about Bill, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability. Please go to www.theshelterconnection.org for more information about and directions to the shelter.

Bill is a 2 ½ year old shepherd mix that came as a rescue through The Shelter Connection’s rescue program from Georgia. Bill gets very nervous in new spaces, but once he becomes used to the space he will relax and even become playful. Bill perks up around other dogs, and we believe a home with another confident dog will help him to see that the world is not so scary! When Bill is comfortable in a space he is very friendly and likes to snuggle up and be petted- he has had positive reactions to every person he has met. Bill would thrive in a patient, dog savvy home that will give him the time to adjust to a new space. Bill will also require a home with a solid, 6 foot fence.

**We are facilitating adoptions by appointment only. If you are interested in meeting Bill, please call the shelter at 516-869-6311. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment we will be unable to assist you.**

Why adoption is a great option

Bill, a Port Washington Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Shepherd (Unknown Type) for sale in Port Washington, or seeking a Shepherd (Unknown Type) dog from a breeder in Port Washington.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Port Washington already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Port Washington breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Shepherd (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Shepherd (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Port Washington paves the way for another one to be saved.
