My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Missy is a truly delightful dog. She has gorgeous GSD black and tan coloring and is an incredibly sweet, mild-mannered dog we estimate to be thirteen years of age. For Missy, though, it appears that age is only a number. This lady still exhibits youthful energy and a true enthusiasm for daily adventures.

Above all, Missy loves people. She wants nothing more than to be with her person and is eager to please. In her foster home, she loves being with her family. Missy will be by your side at all times, if allowed. She loves to investigate what you are doing and will be your constant companion. While this is one of the qualities that make Missy so endearing, she is also learning that there are times when her family expects her to stay and wait.

Missy also loves to ride in the car. She bounds to the car with a youthful energy you wouldn’t expect from a thirteen year old and then sits politely in the backseat, sticking her head out of the window from time to time to get a breath of fresh air. Missy has not shown a great deal of interest in toys, but loves to tag along when her foster mom throws a tennis ball for Missy’s canine foster brother. Missy is happy to flop down on her back in between throws, put her paws in the air, and gratefully accept a belly scratch.

While overall Missy’s exercise requirements are moderate, she loves the opportunity to go for a walk. In her foster home, morning and evening walks have been part of Missy’s daily routine. As soon as Missy sees the leash, she responds by bouncing up and down with excitement. She walks well on a leash and keeps a slow to moderate pace. Daily exercise will help stimulate Missy intellectually and also help keep Missy’s weight down.

Missy has done well meeting new people and interacting with strangers. However, she looks to her people for guidance when encountering these new situations. True to her breed, Missy will demonstrate a more alert posture when someone unfamiliar approaches, but relaxes as soon as she is reassured that her handler is in control of the situation.

Missy has excellent manners in the house. In the evening, Missy is content to relax and unwind with her family. Missy will happily lounge on her dog bed while you watch TV. A true lady, she will sit and lick her paws and then daintily cross them in front of her and go to sleep.

Missy currently lives with another dog in her foster home and gets along well with him. An ideal home for Missy would be one where she can be the only dog, or in a home with an older, laid back dog. Missy has not been tested with cats, but she does exhibit a strong prey drive toward squirrels when out on walks. For that reason, a home without a resident feline is recommended.

Missy truly is the best of both worlds. She is a mature GSD with a sweet and gentle disposition who has learned what is expected of her. She represents all of the great characteristics of the breed including loyalty, intelligence, and a strong desire to please her person. Missy is a great dog that has so much to offer. She needs a home that recognizes that realizes that there is such a thing as an “oldie, but goodie” and that Missy may just be that golden girl they have been looking for.
