My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Callie, an adorable petite Shepherd Mix

Callie is an absolutely perfect pup! She’s a compact size of about 50 lbs, and estimated to be 5 years old. She loves people and loves chilling with them. Callie is fine with dogs her size and larger but is not a friend to smaller dogs or cats.

Callie joined BAARK Dog Rescue from a high-kill shelter in Tennessee, after she was found as a stray with the side of her body torn from a terrible bite wound incurred by another dog. Rather than it being treated, it became badly infected and required several weeks to begin healing.

But now, Callie is all healed, feeling great, and ready to move along to her forever home.

We are not exactly sure of her breed, likely a Shepherd, possibly Husky mix. As such, a home with Shepherd experience would be ideal for Callie. She does possess many traits typically of Shepherds, including being protective of her family and not particularly welcoming to strangers.

In addition Callie would do best in an all-adult, quiet home. She’d enjoy the attention of being an only dog, but is expected to do fine with another larger, laid-back dog.

Callie’s foster provides the following description of this wonderful girl:

Callie has been an absolute joy to have in our home! She is a wonderful dog with so many amazing qualities and she is ready to find a family that loves her as much as we do! Callie is a 5 year old Husky mix. She is fully housebroken and does not need to be crated. She is very laid-back with a moderate energy level. She loves her bed, lounging and taking naps. (These things are very important to her!) Callie also loves walks of course, and will actually wag her tail so hard that she hits herself in the face when we get her leash out. She can be a vigorous walker at times, so if you need a buddy to help you lose those Covid 19 pounds, she can help you with that!

Callie is a sweet and affectionate companion that will accept all the love you offer her. Being somewhat of an introvert, she is shy around strangers and can be hesitant about meeting new people. She has recently made amazing strides with her social skills, and has shown more confidence when approaching new people. She prefers a few moments of sniffing before getting pets...she appreciates slow introductions!

Callie’s ideal family would be laid-back with calm energy. A fenced yard would be ideal for her; as she enjoys being outside like her former life in Tennessee. Callie would do best as being an “only” dog; although she may get along with a larger male that is willing to tolerate her bossiness. She does not care for small dogs, and she shows fear of dogs she does not know. Dog parks would be overwhelming for her, as would crowds and noise--after all, she is a simple country girl at heart. If you are looking for an easy and sweet household companion, Callie is your girl!

Callie is up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and on year round heartworm prevention, spayed and microchipped.
