UPDATE 4/27/21 (by Sigrid):
Labrador black with a touch of crisp white, Sarge is dressed for a black-tie event. He is estimated to be about 4 years old, and he weighed a very thin 53 pounds when we got him as an unclaimed stray from Animal Control.
Considering Sarge's name and masculine appearance, you would expect him to be brave and confident. And since he has a bit of a pit bull look, one might also expect him to be outgoing and bold. But this boy is bashful and uncertain at first. Once Sarge feels safe, he wants to buddy-up and be your partner. His confidence has improved, and now, he shows a smiling face when we come to his door. This fellow has learned some of the benefits of being around us nice people—Nyla bones with good stuff smeared inside, stroking hands, a comfortable room, and encouraging words.
Sarge is smart and gentle, and he shows a great capacity for love and forgiveness. So far, he has been mostly submissive or curious when other dogs approach.
Now that he has been with us a while, and has been fed nutritional food on a regular basis, he has good body weight. He has learned that a leash and collar means something good and is happy to go for walks.
Sweet Sarge has taken a great liking to the care he receives at Almost Home and it suites him well. And, shelter staff has taken a great liking to him, seeing “best friend” potential in his gentle spirit.
