My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

COURTESY POST!
Duke is a beautiful 7-year old male blue merle Aussie with striking blue eyes. He is a standard Australian Shepherd at around 55lbs. Duke is an AUSSOME pup that wants to please, but can be stubborn and has some anxiety issues. He needs an experienced Aussie owner and a strong leader. However, Duke is TOTALLY a typical Aussie, he is a Velcro companion, very loyal, a snuggle bug, and loves backyard time (like fetch)! Duke might be best as an only dog, BUT he does currently have a brother (mixed 6-year old male dog) that he gets along great with.

Please keep in mind that it will take time, patience, and distancing to get Duke to warm up to other dogs. Duke is not food aggressive or has any resource guarding issues but does like to beg. Duke is very frantic and skittish around his owner's newborn baby and does bark aggressively when the baby cries, so the ideal new home would be baby and kid free with someone not planning on having children during his lifetime. Duke also has a cat brother that he gets along with. To be honest, Duke really doesn't acknowledge his cat brother's existence all that much, but this is the only cat he's ever met. Duke has good recall when his name is called. He will bond with you but expect a rough few weeks for him to bond and trust to be built.

Duke's vocabulary is HUGE and he is SUPER smart! He is continuing to learn new things each day and loves to learn new things! He knows words like 'sit', 'shake', 'stay', 'wait, 'no', crate', 'food', so he has a strong start. Duke is also people selective, If he is scared of someone or nervous, he has nipped in the past, but not full on 'bitten'. Duke has some stranger danger issues with new people he doesn't know and it WILL take time to settle into his new home with proper guidance, strong leadership, and someone that understands that he needs to continue to be trained. For now, Duke stays in his crate when guests are over that he does not know. The few times he has been introduced to a stranger, the person coming in, needs to FIRMLY say SIT and he seems to understand their request.

HE IS A WORK IN PROGRESS! If someone wanted to train this boy to do tricks, he would love it! On a scale of 1-10, he is a 7 for energy. He is crated at night and sleeps well in his crate. He will bark a little when people come over or there is a lot of noise going on outside. He settles down quickly and sleeps through the night. Did I mention Duke LOVES to play fetch?! Someone with a chuck-it ball launcher would be his best friend! Looking for the love of your life? Duke would love to be your forever baby! Duke is a middle aged Aussie and needs both mental and physical stimulation to live his best life. Duke is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. Duke is currently living with (his original owners) in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Duke's NEEDS: Strong human Aussie leader No babies or children under 10. Another dog, as long as the introduction is slow, positive and very controlled Someone that will continue his training

Duke's WANTS: Someone to play and snuggle with A physically fenced yard If you are interested in Duke, please contact his owner: derekmiller88@hotmail.com or cell: 248-421-8076 This is a courtesy post through Australian Shepherds Furever. The owner will have the adopter send the adoption fee to ASF as a donation.
