My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Alice is as wonderful as she looks. She is a magnificent creature full of energy, drive and smarts. Highly athletic, graceful and physically fit and strong, she is a looker and a doer.

She was located by our recruiter in a shelter in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her owner surrendered her when they no longer had time to care for her. She happened to be a staff favorite at the shelter and now she is a favorite of ours. Showing the talent, drive and focus of a true working dog, Alice caught our attention right away. Unfortunately, however, she was released from our search dog training program because of indications of elbow arthritis that showed up on her x-rays. The search work that our dogs train for requires lots of high-impact physical activity (jumping up and down from heights, running on uneven surfaces, lateral moves and other activities hard on joints). She shows no outward signs and other than limiting high impact activities, she would benefit from lots of physical activity such as hiking, walking, swimming, toy play and any low-impact dog sport.

Alice can be aloof and business-like in her manners, but once she is comfortable with a situation (or person) she opens up. She likes a scritch and can accept affection when ready, but mostly she would like to FETCH! She is relentless in her love of chasing after a ball. The good news is she knows how to drop it, unless you'd like to play tug instead, because that is also something she loves to do. Any kind of play is OK with Alice! She is fairly stable socially and is always on the alert for what's next to do. She would be a terrific dog sport partner, having the intensity and focus of a working dog, the body of a fitness expert and the smarts of a prodigy.

Alice is a unique dog with a unique look and universal talents. She is looking for a unique partner to play with, is it you?
