My story

Hi, I am Mario, Luigi’s big brother. I am good sized for a Brittany (54 pounds) and I’m all muscle. Everything that Luigi says applies to me (so check out his bio), except instead of fetching, I like to play keep away with the chuck-it ball to torment my brother.  So, if you want me to fetch, you will have to work with me.  Overall, even though I am larger, I am more of a cuddle bunny.

When we first came to our foster home, we didn’t like cars because all the trips were to the vet. Now we have learned to enjoy car rides.

Fortunately, neither of us has shown a desire to dig, which is good, because with our strength we could dig to China. We are much happier just running, sniffing and chasing vermin. We have demonstrated our prey instinct a couple of times, running down and killing field rats. We don’t eat them or anything, we just bring them to our foster dad to show off.

As my brother Luigi told you, we are best buddies, we like to sleep near each other, play like boys, chase after critters, and get into trouble together.

I should say we probably aren’t the best candidates for dog parks. If a little dog acts timid or runs, our prey instinct kicks in and we will chase him down.  We probably need a lot more socializing at dog parks with the bigger dogs before being allowed to roam freely. So, if you are looking for a dog that you can just let loose at the dog park for his exercise needs, we are not the right dogs for you.

The combined adoption fee for Luigi and me is $700 (discounted from the individual fees for two dogs) which helps offset our vetting and allows NBRAN to rescue more of these wonderful family members. If you are interested in making Mario and Luigi a part of your family, please complete the on-line application by visiting Once the application has been completed, you will be contacted by your state coordinator.  A phone interview, home visit, and vet check will be required as part of the approval process. While Mario and Luigi can be transported up to 1400 miles to their new home, preference will be given to approved adopters who live closer to their foster home.

Mario and Luigi are both neutered, heartworm negative, current on their vaccinations, and microchipped
