My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rikki is a bold and beautiful girl who delights everyone who gets to know her. She's a relationship-type and is looking for a partner or family who can appreciate her for who she is...a lovely dog.

She is strong and intense, but super intelligent and trainable. She wants to please, so if you are confident in your dog handling and communication skills, she is right there with you. She is also agile and athletic and loves to play fetch, her toy drive is significant, and she will play with you as long as you wish! One other lovely aspect of this lovely dog is that she also has a nice off-switch!

She has impeccable house manners, is friendly and affectionate (especially with her people) and has plenty of obedience skills under her belt.

Does she have bugaboos? Well, who doesn't? She can be strong on leash--but with a confident partner, she is brilliant. She can be reactive to other dogs--but with a confident partner, she is very manageable. She does not like small dogs and probably would not do well with a cat or small kids either.

Rikki's journey to Search Dog Foundation began when she was picked up as a stray in Oregon and then came to our recruiter's attention via 11th Hour K9 Rescue (their name says it all). She was an excellent candidate for disaster search work, because of all the characteristics listed above, but when we found a spot on her x-rays, we realized she could not enter this career due to hip dysplasia. Her dysplasia has not exhibited itself outwardly yet, she is an athletic and active dog, but someday it might. In the meantime (as in the next many years...) she would be an excellent walking, hiking or swimming partner and would benefit tremendously from an active partner and plenty of regular (if moderate) exercise.

If you have the desire for loveliness in your life, you might have the desire to help this good sweet girl on her way to becoming your very very very best friend.
