My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Pakey
GENDER: Female (Spayed)
AGE: Approximately 6 – 7 years
WEIGHT: About 7.5 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Good with all dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: All Adult Home or home with older, mature children (13 and older)

Meet Pakey. This little girl is very gentle and very sweet. She is looking for a home where she can settle in and be a loving part of a family.

In late July, CRT was contacted by a family in Ohio. The husband has recently passed away and the wife was having to move from her home. They had 22 Chihuahuas and all needed to be rehomed. All three CRT regions joined together for a rescue mission the first weekend of August. After hundreds of miles and hours of driving, all 22 Chihuahua were safe in CRT foster homes around the country. Pakey was one of these dogs. She is now ready for a forever home, with a few less siblings so she can have more attention!

Pakey gets along well with both the small dogs and big dogs in her foster home. She has settled nicely into the routine and just wants to be part of the pack. She does not play much, but she loves hanging around the other dogs and being a part of the daily activities. She loves to go outside and lay in the sun. Sometimes she will go out to potty, feel the warm sun and just relax in the yard with the sun on her back and the breeze in her face. It makes her so happy! Pakey does not play with toys much (she says she will let her siblings have all the fun with toys!).

Most of all, Pakey loves her humans. She is the consummate lap dog. Pakey wants to be with you all the time and will happily spend hours in your lap as you watch TV together. She is extremely well behaved and will do anything to make her family happy. She is not mischievous at all! She has the cutest habit we want to share with you. When she is sitting on your lap, she tilts her head back and looks at you with a specific look as if to say “I adore you”. You are her angel, and she expresses that to you every day. Her expressions of love melt our hearts, and we think it will melt your heart too.

Pakey is about 6 – 7 years old. She weighs a perfect 7.5 pounds. Pakey has a beautiful tan coat with white highlights. We believe Pakey would do best in a home with a fenced in yard (versus an apartment). She is very curious about what is going on outside, and has shown a tendency to dart out the front door to try to get in on the neighborhood action – LOL. Thus, a secure barrier around your front door will be a must.

Pakey is a social dog. Pakey gets lonely when she is left alone (which we can all understand since she grew up in a home with 21 doggy siblings!). She does not like to be crated for long periods of time while you are gone. For this reason, we believe an ideal home would be one with a work at home family or retired family. She enjoys laying in a doggy bed in the home office while her Mom works from home. Pakey loves people so much that she wants to hang around family day and night!

We believe Pakey would like to have another small dog in her home to be buddies with. She would probably be fine as an only dog too as long as her family spent lots of time with her. There are no children in her foster home. We think that due to her age, personality and size, she would do best in an all adult home or a home with older, mature children (13 and older). The ideal home for Pakey would be one that was laid back with moderate activity. Oh we also think she might like car rides! She keeps following her Mom out into the garage (don’t worry – garage door is closed) and wants to get into the car with her! So we are going to take her for some car rides to see how she does. She might be a little road warrior! We will update her bio when we figure this out. Pakey is a fairly quiet dog. She has a gentle soul.

Pakey grew up using potty pads and is excellent with them! We are working with her on going potty outside and she is transitioning well. Pakey will sleep in her crate at night. We mentioned earlier that she is not fond of a crate, but at night, she goes into the crate by her foster Mom’s bed and goes right to sleep. If she can see you and knows you are in the room with her, she is fine. She just does not like to be in the crate when you leave the house. It makes her lonely. We have recently noticed that she gets a little nervous during storms. Her foster Mom has been working on her with this, and will give you advice on how to comfort her.

Pakey is being fostered in the DFW area. If this sweet girl sounds like the right fit for your home, our CRT adoption form can be found at https://www.chihuahua-Rescue.com/adoption-application/

Pakey is spayed, neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention.

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $324.75 adoption donation required ($300 adoption donation and $24.75 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at https://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
