My story

Daisy Mae came from a property with many, many dogs. She never got the love and attention she deserved, so she needs to learn that good luvin' is a-okay! She's come a long way already, but must have a home that will continue to show her patience. She also needs at least one secure dog friend to help her relax, and speaking of relaxing, a secure backyard would be out of this world!  She's the most beautiful, dark-as-the-night black we have ever seen...and this girl just deserves a chance. If you are a person who understands that some dogs need to warm up, on their own timeframe, then we'd love to hear from you. Daisy Mae is a gentle girl looking for a forever home, or a foster home to help her become more secure.

Adoption Process

  1. Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative.

  2. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above.

  3. Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events every Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar.

  4. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment.

  5. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $125 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets.

It is the policy of the society to provide humane care and treatment for animals needing protection in the area served by the society; to seek to return lost animals to their owners; to seek suitable homes for animals without owners; to promote spay/neuter in the community; to encourage a network of foster homes for adoptable animals, to aid in encouraging adequate conditions in our city shelter and to educate this community in living with their pet and being responsible pet owners, i.e.-education on health, training and behavioral care, as well as ways to recognize abuse, neglect or cruelty. In its care and disposition of animals, the society shall maintain the highest level of care and integrity in placement, care and education.

We will be active in our community educating the children in our schools, bringing the community together with fundraisers and pet friendly events and ensuring each pet owner has all the resources/information necessary to care for their pet.
