My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This sweet and sable character has an inside that's as gorgeous as his outside. Sven is a nice boy with nice drive (bold, intense energy) and is looking for a nice place to really and finally call home.

Sven was tied up to a tree in the backyard and left behind when his people moved away. Some kind neighbors were able to cut the cable that had tangled around him and take him to the shelter in Lassen County. They noticed his high toy drive, his eagerness to play with people, and his friendly demeanor and knew he had exactly what we look for at Search Dog Foundation!

Sven had a nice trip on a private airplane with a dedicated volunteer pilot and was set to begin search dog training, when we discovered something strange on his x-rays--an extra vertebra. This phenomena has a name: Lumbosacral Transitional Vertebra and as a breed, German Shepherds tend to be prone to it. This means that Sven could not continue as a working dog with high physical impact. It may or may not affect him down the road but living a 'normal' life in a pet home would be the best prescription for a happy and healthy life.

This boy is confident and socially stable. He loves his toys, loves to train, loves to learn and is super crazy smart. He likes to sing and talk (like some shepherds do) and is open to affection. He has all the intelligence and talents that we look for in a dog for our training program, so we hope that his new family or person can appreciate these things in him too.

He is young and full of energy, still learning how to walk nicely on a leash, but improving! Shepherds tend to form a strong bond with their person(s) and Sven should be no exception to this. He likes working with people and he LOVES playing with them too.

Beautiful sable boy seeks beautiful stable home -- is it you?
