My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Snipe
Breeds: German Shepherd Mix
Age: Young Adult
Gender: Male
Size: Extra Large (90 lbs)

Calling all large dog lovers, we have found your next best friend!! Perhaps you are looking for a playmate for your current pup or maybe just looking for an active friend to go for walks and runs, play ball and maybe even do dog sports? Snipe is your guy. This young adult shepherd mix is an ideal playmate for another large breed canine companion. He loves nothing more than roughhousing with his dog buddies, playing, wrestling, and hopping around in the kiddie pools or lakes. No cats or small animals for him! Snipe thinks rabbits and squirrels are tasty snackos and cats and small animals are just too similar. He is good on leash with a prong collar, but he is 90lbs so he needs someone who is physically able to handle that. He is housetrained and cratetrained, though with all dogs expect a transition period with housetraining. He loves people and makes a great cuddle buddy once his energy is burned down and he’s tuckered out. He is the activity level you would expect from a Shepherd and needs daily walks/runs, playtime, and/or something to keep his smart brain occupied and him thinking (puzzle toys, training, dog sports, etc are wonderful for this). So why is Snipe still looking for his forever home? Because Snipe is a big boy who if he’s allowed will push boundaries and walk all over his people. He can be very mouthy initially when playing which can be alarming if you don’t understand dog behavior. He behaves perfectly at his foster home where he knows exactly what the expectations are but in a new home, he tries to push the limits at first and see what he can get away with. He requires an adult home who will set him up for success by setting boundaries right off the bat and reinforcing appropriate manners and play. He does require a 6+ foot fenced yard (he jumps shorter fences) and/or rural acreage with someone committed to taking him out on a leash while teaching him yard boundaries. He is trained reliably off leash on an e-collar. We require his adopters to sign up for training classes with him to get things started on the right foot and reinforce his training. He would be a great candidate if someone wanted to do more advanced training as he is so smart. Please also see our instagram page @headinghomek9rescuemn for more photos and videos of Snipe!

Requirements: 6+ foot fenced yard or acreage, no cats, no young kids

Adoption Fee: $475 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing if appropriate, deworming, microchip, and current preventatives
