My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas, North Central Texas or the southern Oklahoma area.

NAME: Tank
GENDER: Male (Neutered)
AGE: Approximately 2 – 3 years old
WEIGHT: Weighs 2.8 pounds
DOGS/CATS: Great with other dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: All Adult Home (Due to His Tiny Size)

Introducing Tank. This adorable little guy is amazing.

Tank was found as a stray out roaming the streets of Mesquite. Weighing in at 2.8 lbs, it is amazing that he survived out there. Luckily, he was turned into Mesquite Animal Shelter by a good Samaritan. When no owner stepped forward to claim him, the team at the Mesquite Animal Shelter reached out to CRT to see if we could bring him into our program and help him to find his forever home. We were happy to help him, Tank has stolen our hearts.

Tank is a sweet, lean, cuddling machine. He enjoys other small dogs and has fit right into the pack, even though his foster mates are 2-3 times his size. Tank is not afraid to play with them at all. We are not sure he has looked in the mirror to see how small he is! He definitely holds his own and often is the instigator of play! So far, we have not really seen him playing with toys, but he is curious about them.

Tank really loves his human family and wants to be near them all the time. He is super excited to be held, to play or cuddle with them. They have chosen to have him sleep overnight in a large crate because of his size & fear of injuring him in their sleep. Tank does, however, love a nice afternoon nap on the bed with them.

Our vet estimates that Tank is about 2-3 years old. He seems to adapt to new situations quickly. Tank weighs about 2.8 pounds, and is slightly underweight. We have him on a high nutrition diet so he can safely gain a little weight. Our vet thinks he should be about 3.5 to 4 pounds at his ideal weight. He will always be a tiny dog. Ideally, we are looking for a family that is experienced with very small dogs for his forever home.

Tank loves going outside and exploring the backyard. Note that Tank is small and therefore will always need his human nearby while he is out (there are instances where hawks or large birds will swoop down and pick up small dogs under 5 pounds, so you will want to be there to protect Tank). We also want to emphasize that your fence must be very secure. Tank is so tiny that she can easily slip under the smallest opening in a fence, so he will need to be in a home with a solid, fenced yard (wooden fence only – he is tiny and can slip through other fence configuarations). Note that he does like to explore and will definitely check out your fence area. Please be sure that your yard and home are very secure in all aspects.

Tank has not been in foster care long, so he is not housebroken yet. He is very smart and will hopefully train easily. We are working with him daily and have already seen improvement in the time he has been with us.

Tank’s ideal home would be one with activity and lots of love to share. We think Tank would enjoy another small dog as a buddy, but we also think he would do fine as an only dog as long as his family was around a lot and gave him lots and lots of love. He would be great for a work at home or retired family where he could spend the afternoon on a warm lap. Tank is generally very quiet, but he will probably alert you if he hears someone coming! Due to his tiny size and small frame, he should not be in a home with children.

This little guy is so sweet, and we are excited to help him find his forever home.

Tank is being fostered in the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: https://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/

Tank is neutered, micro chipped, up-to-date on shots, HW negative, and on heartworm prevention. He is ready to join a loving family – could that family be yours?

This dog is a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $324.75 adoption donation required ($300 adoption donation and $24.75 Texas Sales Tax). Note: as of 1-1-20, the Texas State Comptroller office is requiring all rescue groups to collect sales tax on adoptions, even though we are all 501c3. We are all fighting this, but for now, have been told it is non-negotiable.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at https://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
