I have had Jones since he was a kitten, 12 years ago. About five years ago I acquired two small-ish dogs and he got used to them, sleeping in the same bed with us all. Those dogs had to be euthanized (I adopt seniors and they each got cancer). The next two dogs I acquired got along well together but one had a strong prey instinct and chased Jones. Jones is a little shy and would not retaliate. I think all it would take is for him to nail them in the nose but, instead, he runs away. He now stays in the basement, either on his cat tree or in his favorite bed and I see him every couple of days to clean his litter box and make sure he has fresh food and water. He is very affectionate and is not living his best life. His Siamese predecessor lived to 18 years and I would hate to see him spend those next 6 years in the basement with kitty PTSD.
Jones has just been to the vet who encouraged me to rehome him. He weighs 19 pounds, shots up to date, and just had normal blood work.
