My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Foster Homes Needed!

Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog?

http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html

*****************

Marigold is an absolute joy in her foster home.  She is very fun-loving, playful and sweet.  She LOVES chew toys but needs extra tough chews because she is definitely a chewer.  She is also incredibly smart and enjoys playing with her dog puzzle toy, which she is very good at solving!  As she is so smart, she has picked up basic training with ease using positive reinforcement.  She responds to commands to sit and lay down and she is currently working on “leave it”.  She also knows how to sit calmly and wait before coming out of her crate and sits and stays before exiting and entering the house.  She walks well on leash, so long as she has the opportunity to exert all of her puppy energy.  When she gets to run around her fenced yard a bit prior to walks, she does beautifully!  Marigold is crate trained though does not like to be crated for prolonged periods, however, she does very well sleeping in her crate overnight. Marigold is extremely active and will definitely need to go to an active family that has the time to properly exercise her.  She enjoys several long walks daily in addition to playtime in the yard with the resident family dog, whom she adores.  She has been thriving having her older, confident foster sister as a role model. She is great with other dogs in general, including play dates with the neighbor dog.   Although Marigold is young and very active, she certainly enjoys quiet moments and is a wonderful snuggler!  When she is finished playing , she’ll often climb up on the couch and either cuddle or lay across a lap, which is very endearing.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first step in our process is the application which can be completed either online or at one of our adoption events. We would then conduct an interview with all members of the household. We do a vet reference if applicable, and lastly, we do a home visit. Our adoption fee is $285 and all dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on all required vaccines, tested for heartworm and tickborne diseases, and on year-round heartworm preventative. Lastly, all dogs are microchipped.

More about this rescue

Mutt Love Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill, volunteer dog rescue organization serving the Washington, DC, metro area. We are dedicated to rescuing dogs left homeless for whatever reason – dogs in public shelters where they are at high risk of euthanasia due to pet overpopulation, dogs given up by their owners because of difficult circumstances, and those in danger of abuse or neglect.

We place dogs in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process which includes taking considerable care in finding good matches and educating prospective adopters about the responsibilities and costs of bringing a dog into their homes and lives.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment, and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes. We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement. To the extent our finances allow, dogs in the greatest need take priority.

We are determined to keep administrative expenses extremely low so that virtually every dollar taken in goes directly to the care of the animals. Our group remains interested in and committed to the welfare of the dog beyond the adoption process.

Finally, we strive to work with area shelters and other rescue and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets.
