My story

Meet Holmes!!!

Holmes is believed to be a 3-year-old, Beagle/Yellow Lab mix. He is amazing with dogs and cats and devoted and in love, with all humans, he meets. Holmes is extremely gentle but clingy and very praise and food motivated. But his biggest motivation is people. Holmes has learned most of his basic commands including learning “not to bark excessively when excited or the need to communicate his needs/wants. He does need to be reminded to use his indoor voice, but overall he is eager to please and easily continues to learn with positive reinforcement and praise and lots of love and affection. His biggest motivation is his peoples' attention and love. All hounds are amazing but Holmes is extraordinarily awesome because he leads with his heart. Holmes is house and crate trained. He walks well on a leash. His recall is actually pretty good for a hound. Holmes will need a fully fenced-in yard and daily walks to let his sniffer work. The occasional car ride as needed is ok but definitely not his favorite as it does cause him some anxiety. He enjoys urban life and being surrounded by people makes him happy. Especially short drives to the drive through town and down the road. An active, hands-on home with daily outdoor walks/adventures and someone home often would be best for Holmes. He thrives with all human companionship. I dare to say Holmes can be stage % clinger. Not the worse but clingy enough to honor the label.

Holmes is house and crate trained, up to date on all appropriate core vaccines including lepto, rabies, de-wormed, fecal tested negative, micro-chipped, neutered, and on monthly heart-worm flea/tick prevention.

Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense. We do NOT ship and meet and greet are required before adoption unless you are a previous adopter.

We believe training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily. New issues and opportunities arise daily that have to be addressed and or rewarded. Continued training is a lifetime commitment.

Additional adoption info

Completed applications MUST be Printed & Mailed via United States Postal Service. We are a volunteer-based rescue, meaning every person involved is doing their best. Taking time out of their busy day to best help provide proper daily maintenance care for every dog and/or cat in our care until the best match with a happy forever adopter is made. Normally our adoption application processing review may take 2 to 3 weeks give or take. If you are seeking same-day adoptions then AHS may not be the best fit for your needs. We do not agree with impulse adoption. Adopting any pet is a decision that should not be taken lightly nor made impulsively.

Go meet their pets

We are a foster-based all-volunteer program. We are not a government shelter facility nor are we open to the public. Our adoption process can take 2 to 3 weeks from the time you mail it in to the time that we reach out to you. If you are window shopping we are not the rescue for you. We are seeking committed adopters.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit licensed rescue. Our mission is to help homeless animals find great forever homes. Educating the public on spay and neuter. Sharing joy and respect for all precious life. Our heart is with the community, helping families keep their pets at home. We have a few programs including Feeding the homeless and their pets. The hospice heaven program consists of pulling older cats and dogs from high kill shelters and placing them in a loving home. Matching senior pets with a senior home.
