My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"SHANE" -- is a 4 month old purebred Border Collie puppy. He was purchased from a "backyard breeder" in New Jersey at 3 months old by a pair of brothers who ran a heavy earthmoving equipment company (bulldozers, backhoes, etc.) in Brooklyn, N.Y. Their intention was for Shane to guard their equipment yard along with a pitbull! However, the pitbull's intentions were decidedly different, so he had to be tied up on one side of the yard, and Shane had to be tied up on the other. Shane was tied to their office trailer and slept underneath it at night until a neighbor complained to the brothers and they began to take him home at night before deciding to give him up to rescue. All this has apparently not effected Shane adversely, and he seems to be a sweet dog who loves nothing better than to play with other dogs (though there does seem to be a little scuffle or two over toys).

Shane is being fostered in Connecticut.

IMPORTANT: You should always choose a breed/dog that matches your CURRENT lifestyle. Border Collies are not for everyone, and contrary to popular misconception, most are NOT typically “great family pets” and “wonderful with children.” (If that were true, there would not be nearly as many in rescue!)

Before inquiring about adopting a dog from us, we recommend you do a little research to find out if a Border Collie really is right for your family. For this information, and details on our adoption process, please see our web site www.NEBCR.org.

Please note that you MUST FIRST fill out an adoption application AND have a home visit BEFORE being considered for any NEBCR dog. Our rescue representatives cannot consider you to adopt ANY dog until your application has been submitted and approved.

For more about Shane (including rescue contact information), and for more about other dogs currently available for adoption, please see our web site www.NEBCR.org.
