My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sterling came to us via Patriot Assistant Dogs, a group that trains rescue dogs to assist military veterans with PTSD and other issues. She had started training in their program and learned a number of commands besides the usual sit, down, stay...such as: Ball! (self-explanatory), Get Dressed! (come help get your collar on) and Watch Me! (please give eye contact to your handler). Unfortunately, Sterling’s energy and toy drive were a bit too much for assistant work, so we scooped her up because those qualities are exactly what we look for in our dogs for search training. However, she did not warm up to working on rubble piles and in disaster scenarios, so now she is eagerly awaiting her next job as your best friend.

She is game for training and likes learning things, and although she can be a little pushy, she is very smart and thrives on praise. She will keep trying things until she figures out what right is. She likes to do a victory prance when successful!

Sterling is still a young dog and has lots of energy. She would love a household that can keep her busy, teach her new things and give her the praise and attention she deserves. She will need a confident partner (or partners) to keep her engaged in a consistent manner to help her develop some confidence herself, as sometimes she can become anxious when unclear on direction.
She will do best as the only dog in a household, as focused attention without having run interference with another dog would be her preference. Her prey drive is quite high -- so no cats, please. She responds well to calm, confident and relaxed interactions, so not the best for small children either.

She is a gorgeous girl with a great smile. She has a sweet nature and likes to please. It would please her greatly if you could make her smile by giving her a home!

Sterling is 2 and 1/2 years old and weighs 68 pounds. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.
