My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

June was surrendered to AAC because her mom needed to get out of scary situation and couldn’t take her with her. She was not adjusting well to shelter life. She was very anxious and unable to settle. After arriving in her foster home, she started to relax and show her true personality.

June is a lovable, goofy lab mix, with one ear that stands up and another ear that flops to the side. She is a total sweetheart and just wants to be near her people. She follows her foster parents around the house. She especially loves cuddling on the couch, having her ears and tummy scratched and running and playing fetch in the backyard. Her favorite toy is her treat dispenser ball.

She already knows the rules of the house. She communicates when she needs to go outside to go potty. She is not destructive in the house, even when left alone. She doesn’t even seem interested in chewing shoes! She has very good tables manners too! She is great about not begging for food, in fact, she will sit quietly under the dinner table when her foster parents are eating.

While in foster care, her foster parents haven’t seen her interact with children, cats, or other dogs. But her previous owner stated that she had lived with an elderly chihuahua in the past. She loves visitors who come to the house. After a couple of minutes of excitement she will settle down and give lots of attention and licks to new friends.

June cannot wait to find her forever home! She is a sweet girl who has been through a lot and just wants to give all her love and affection to her family.

Additional adoption info

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day!
For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites.
For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.

Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older

Go meet their pets

The Austin Animal Center is open for adoptions every day from 11:00am to 7:00pm. We're closed Christmas Day, New Year's Day and Thanksgiving Day to give our staff some time with family.
Interested adopters should come to the shelter during business hours to meet with a counselor start looking for a pet who'll be a good fit. Our counselors and volunteers are happy to help with that process.

More about this shelter

Austin Animal Center is the largest open-intake animal shelter in central Texas and we work very hard to try to save 90% or more of the thousands of animals we shelter every year. We always need volunteers and both monetary and in-kind donations to help us in our sheltering and prevention activities. Visit our website to find out how you can help!
