My story

This 6 year old, 62 pound Pit Mix is Lyric. His owner passed away and he was surrendered to us. This was 443 days ago (as of 9/1/22). We believe Lyric has been here so long because he looks intimidating. He does not show aggression, however, besides the normal alpha male behavior. When meeting new dogs, he does not respond aggressively unless they do. When meeting new people, as long as they have treats as a peace offering, he does fine. Lyric responds well to love, attention and treats. He enjoys sun bathing in his play yard, playing with toys, going on long walks and he loves to take a dip in the pond. He is just an independent soul enjoying all that life has to offer.  Lyric did test positive for Heart worms upon arrival and has successfully finished treatment.  He will have to be on heart worm preventative the rest of his life, but that is an easy task to do.  Lyric needs a special home to go to with a fenced yard and people who will love him (6 foot privacy fence required because he is a curious/nosey guy and does jump fences). If you would like more information, please contact our shelter at 870-269-5200 or visit him at 17379 Highway 9, Mountain View, Arkansas.  You can also go to our website and complete an adoption application at schspets.org.

More about this shelter

The Stone County Humane Society is a 501(C)(3) private organization, not a government entity that was formed in 1999. We rescue dogs and cats and are a no-kill shelter but we are not an open take in facility. We are currently operating from our new shelter building recently completed in August 2016 and a cat cottage. Our organization is managed by a volunteer board of 10 individuals and a full-time paid employee shelter manager that handles the day to day operations, and three part-time paid employees that feed and care for the animals and keep the facility clean. Most of our daily operations are funded by proceeds from a Second Chance Shop in town and donations from individuals. We also provide low cost spay/neuter clinics to the people of our county with help from a local vet.
