My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pretty Prada is a sweet 7 year old Yorkie girl who weighs 9.8 lbs. Prada is being fostered in Dunedin, FL.
Dogs fostered in Florida must be adopted within the state of Florida.

UPDATED BIO 06/25/2021: Prada has been in her foster home for only two weeks, but she has been busy! Her previous owner had her since she was a puppy, but was no longer able to give this little girl the attention and care she needed.

Fast forward several days - Prada has had her vaccinations updated and had her well-doggie exam. Her eyes, ears, lungs and heart are all normal and the best news of all, she is heartworm negative! Prada was covered in fleas when she arrived in UYR and as a result is missing much of her beautiful coat. She is flea-free and received some antibiotics and an allergy shot to help with her skin issues and itching from the fleas, and her beautiful coat is now growing back. She is feeling much better now and is a happier little pup, even meeting foster mom at the door with a toy in her mouth and a smile sweet! It is such great news to know that Prada is perfectly healthy considering her lack of vetting in her past.

Prada has been spayed and had her dental. She had 17 teeth extracted, at least 10 were already missing, but she has 15 teeth remaining. Getting rid of the rotten teeth has resulted in a much happier Prada and she is recovering nicely. X-rays were also done on her hip. She had a Femoral Head Ostectomy (FHO) surgery on her right rear hip when she was only 1-year old, probably a genetic issue due to poor breeding. The vet said that the alignment is still good which is great news. Prada may sometimes feel a "catch" while walking resulting in her lifting that leg to take some pressure off. The vet that Prada saw does NOT recommend another surgery, and a second vet who has viewed the X-rays agrees that no further surgery is recommended. In some situations when a FHO is done, the existing hip problem is corrected, but the dog may always have a hitch in their giddy-up, but is not painful. Both vets strongly recommend daily doses of joint supplements for the rest of her life. Her foster mom tells her that she is a little angel. She is a fairly quiet little girlie, sleeps through the night, eats well, and just wants to be loved. Could you be the one she will get to love back? Once Prada's stitches are removed on July 8th, she will be ready to go into her adoptive home.

Prada had a brother in her previous home, and in her foster home there is a resident female yorkie and they get along fine. She will be happy if she had another small dog in the home as a companion, but okay as the only dog in the home as long as she has at least one stay-at-home or work-from-home parent. Prada has a 14-day recovery until her stitches come out and she will be fully ready for her Furever home! She is a loving little sweetheart, very affectionate, a snuggle bug and will be a devoted and loving companion to whoever adopts her.

Prada's dental was very expensive due to the number of extractions. She had not seen a vet for 6 years and also needed to be spayed. If Prada's story of recovery and happiness since she entered UYR has pulled at your heartstrings, please consider making a donation to help us cover her vetting expenses. This will allow UYR to continue to take in little needy doggies like Prada. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING BEFORE APPLYING TO ADOPT PRADA:

- Due to Pradas small size, she can only be adopted into a home with children 10+ years old.

- Prada tends to chase kitty cats, so she needs a home with NO CATS.

- Pradas adoptive home must have a fenced yard since she is reactive to other dogs when walked on a leash.

Foster Mom can answer any questions that potential applicants may have on this reactivity ONLY when walking on a leash; when she is not on the leash, she gets along very well with other dogs
