Ivory von Inden is an incredibly-sweet and beautiful larger-sized, 4-5 year-old German Shepherd who is learning from her foster mom that the best is yet to come! Walking is her favorite exercise because she enjoys meeting friendly neighbors and their dogs. She seems particularly drawn to women and favors stuffed toys, carrying them to her sleeping areas in different parts of the house. When Ivory is in a playful mode, she zooms around the house making silly, wolf-like growls. When asked if she wants a treat, she waves her paw at you in response (she savors mint-flavored denti stix in particular). Being physically abundant at the moment, her intake is being monitored, but we suspect this beauty will touch the scales at 90 pounds or so once she is in perfect shape. Crate-trained and housebroken, Ivory dreams of a female owner who has a male dog in residence where she can live happily ever after. (No cats, please)

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
