ATHENS is truly as gentle as a lamb. She wants nothing more than to please and be loved. She is appreciative of even the tiniest kind gesture. Her foster family is amazed at how exceptional she is. She has never had an accident in her foster home and never chewed on furniture or other things that aren't hers. ATHENS is such a kind soul, with such a desire to be accepted that she doesn't want to do anything to risk getting in trouble. She is so happy to be in a home with other dogs and receiving love from her humans. In fact, ATHENS loves to play with her canine siblings so much, she can only go to a home that has another dog. ATHENS can be a tiny bit timid the first couple minutes with new people. She warms up quickly and will be your best friend in no time. ATHENS is an angel when in a crate, but she has become so trustworthy, her foster mom leaves her out with all her foster siblings when she leaves the house. On walks she is excited and pulls a little at first, but after a few minutes, she walks wonderfully on a leash. She adores her strolls around the neighborhood and minds her manners on car rides as well. An act as simple as a quick pet causes ATHENS to lay her head on your lap and stare up at you with eyes full of enough gratitude and kindness to make your own eyes shed a tear. This girl is the definition of what rescue should be. Her forever family is going to have an angel on earth in ATHENS!

ATHENS is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations including 2 rounds of both the H3N2 and H3N8 canine influenza vaccinations.
Her $490 adoption fee includes her interstate health certificate and the cost of transport to the midwest after she is officially adopted.

All of our dogs start their journey in Memphis, Tennessee where they remain in loving foster families until they are adopted. Once adopted, some pups stay local in Memphis. Many others travel via one of our transport partners to their new forever homes. We use Pet Express Transport (https://petexpresstupelo.wordpress.com) for our Nashville, Knoxville and New England adoptions. For our Midwest adopters, we have our own private transport.
Breed selection is done in conjunction with two local vets and is not to be considered a guarantee but rather a well-educated decision from well qualified staff.
Due to the extremely high volume of inquiries we receive, we ask that you request, complete, and submit an application before asking additional questions. We try very hard to include all pertinent information in our bios. We are excited to help you find your new family member. However, Woof River is 100% volunteer operated. We want to spend our time saving dogs and assisting those adopters who have taken the time to complete an application. Thank you for understanding.
