Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Zechariah is a sweet 11-year-old-male who had lived with one owner, an elderly woman, his whole life. A few months ago, we were contacted by his owner’s family when she had to be moved into a nursing facility. Despite the family’s attempts at finding Zech a new home, no one was able to take him in. He was living in his owner’s enclosed porch with family members coming in a few times a day to feed him and let him out. We know how hard it can be to find a home for a senior dog, but we couldn’t leave Zech in that lonely position in his golden years.
We initially moved Zech into a foster home with a senior female GSD. Zech was anxious with all the changes and had a hard time adjusting to this new life. We don’t think he had a lot of socialization with other dogs. He seemed interested in interacting with the dog in his foster home, but he didn’t understand social cues. We moved him in with our training director where he has lots of company, attention, and can learn to be around other dogs. He is doing very well and is much less anxious. Treating a urinary tract infection has also made him feel better. As with all the senior dogs that come into our rescue, we want to find a home where he is loved and can enjoy the rest of his life. He will need a patient adopter who will allow him the time he needs to adjust to a new environment. He may be best as an only dog to soak up all the attention. Will you consider opening your home to this handsome guy?
