My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Updated 11/7/21: Bobby needs a forever family! He would LOVE a furry brother or sister to play with.

Name: Bobby (Bob) 21-039R
Breed: Golden Retriever (mix)
Age: 1 year (DOB 7/3/2020)
Gender: male
Weight: 41 lbs.
Altered: Yes

REQUIREMENTS FOR MY ADOPTION: PLEASE DO NOT RESPOND UNLESS YOU MEET ALL THE CRITERIA BELOW AND HAVE READ ALL ABOUT ME.

• I'm used to someone in my family being home 99.9% of the time and am learning to be alone a little bit at a time because I have separation anxiety and it has taken 3 months to let my people leave for even one hour. It has gotten better but I am soulfully lost and really scared if one of my humans isn’t in the house with me. So, for the first three months, don’t leave me alone for more than one hour.
• Bobby must have an active brother or sister who will act as a model.
• A rural location with limited distractions like bikers, walker, traffic. A home with significant clear area to run and play. Acreage is needed, a city or suburban setting won’t cut it! A large fenced in yard in a secluded but not critter infested setting is ideal.
• Bobby is high energy and needs two walks a day away from distractions, people, bikers, etc. as well as lots of play time with another dog or with Chuck It or similar play.
• A family that has time to devote to working with Bobby to increase his tolerance of not being left alone and of riding in a car around city streets.
• Obedience training classes are highly recommended. Bobby has had a taste of agility training and really loves it. Time to devote to his training and exercise needs.
• Children and adults must be stable on their feet.

Hi, I'm Bobby and I could be your best friend! I adore attention, I am a sweet, highly intelligent, inquisitive, fun and snuggly fella who is just enjoying life. My ears crimp a bit when wet and I have white paws and a dab of black on my tail so I probably have some border collie in me but I look a lot like a golden and act a bit more like a collie. I’m just a little guy fully grown at 41 lbs. Everyone who meets me loves me and says I have “personality,” am affectionate, sweet, and entertaining!! I am calm in the house and my foster family thinks I am one smart cookie! I discovered the lake this summer and can demonstrate my high jumps and vaulting ability to anyone who cheers me on. A firm “Uh, Uh” stops me from chasing the ducks. I do love a good belly rub and to jump off the deck at home rather than go down stairs. When outside, I like running better than walking any day of the year. I am very smart and love to learn new things!!

My foster mom says that I am pure puppy and will make anyone willing to put in the time for some additional training a wonderful companion. I am so proud of myself as I stay in the yard and never wander too far from my human’s side. This summer, I loved to just rest in the grass and watch my foster mom work in the yard. When I am outside I will find tree bark and sticks to chew on to entertain myself. She did say that leash walking is something I should work on but learning to walk on a leash is so difficult when you have so many country smells to enjoy and places to go. Tunnels and high jumps are right up my alley so I think agility, frisbee or flyball training would be fun!! I'm just excitable right now and everything is a fun adventure and there isn’t a dog in the neighborhood that can outrun me!

I'm excited to meet everyone! I love to meet all sizes of people, but if I am off leash, I will run up to folks I don’t know while barking at them, so they are not sure of me . All they have to do is say “sit” and pet me and I am a marshmallow at their feet. If I greet people on leash, I am a little more “owy” and afraid so I act out. I'm happy, bouncy, jumpy, and have zoomies every day which are all part of being a one year old. Okay, sometimes I forget and I get excited and jump up on you and try to nip your hands but this is much better than when I first came to GRRoW. If you turn around and cross your arms I quickly remember my manners.

I prefer playing with another dog who loves to romp rather than interact with children. Sometimes I run so fast I worry I will bowl over anyone near me. My foster families have taught me to “pass” on the left. I love meeting new dogs and can play for hours. I’m still learning the signals when an older dog does not want to play. Did I tell you I run rather than walk when outside, but I know how to be a perfect gentleman in the house.

There are no cats in my foster home but I will chase rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks unless my human gives me that “Uh, Uh” sound! I will also give them a bark or two to let them know they are on my property.

I love to play with toys and prefer the ball variety outside and the soft toys inside. I LIVE to catch anything, a ball, football, Frisbee!!! There is nothing more fun for me than chasing something and bringing it right back for you to throw it again...and again...and again!

I know to settle down in the house and will “kennel up” when asked and enjoy eating my treats/bones in the open kennel. Just don’t leave me in there and leave the house, that is when I get scared.

I am really proud that I sleep through the night where ever I want and haven’t had an accident in the house. I know to stay off the furniture and the beds but I want to be near you all the time. I take treats gently and will sit for my treats as well as my meals that I get served in a puzzle bowl. I respect baby gates that are just resting against the door frame and can sit and wait when going in and out a door.

Initially, I was panicky in the car but now I like to be in the back seat where I can recline when on the highway or sit up and watch what is going on when driving through a town. My foster family has left me alone, uncrated for short periods with the resident dog but when alone I am scared and sit by the door until someone comes home. Then I will let you know I was unhappy by pushing against you and possibly jumping up on you. If you are going somewhere, I want to go with you and will readily jump in the car. It takes me about 20 minutes to settle, especially if there are people and things to see. If we are on the highway, I usually fall asleep in the SUV but around town I will bark a few times at people and bikers. We are taking trips into town every day so I get used to all kinds of experiences.

Guns, storms, loud noises and the vacuum do not bother me a bit. I do like to bark outside when I run up to greet someone or see someone who does not belong or when someone comes to the door or when I tree a squirrel. My foster mom is working on this with me. Otherwise, I am a pretty quiet guy.
I know and respond to my name as well as "Sit", "Come", “Down”, "Potty”, "Wait" , “Kennel Up” and “Uh, Uh.”

Bobby will talk to you and he expects an answer back. He is wonderful and will take hold of your heart and change your life forever. He’s not perfect, but has so much love and life to share with you. When you look into his soulful eyes and talk to him, you'll fall in love
He will need consistency along with patience and understanding and about 3 months to settle in and trust you won’t leave him.
