My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet, adorable Teddy had a difficult puppyhood. He’s looking forward to a long, happy future in his forever home!

Teddy was raised by a woman who suffers from bipolar disorder and severe anxiety. She loved Teddy very much, but was unable to give him the consistent environment and training that a puppy needs to grow into a well-adjusted dog. Growing up in a highly emotional atmosphere, Teddy absorbed her anxiety and became anxious and over-stimulated by the world around him. Adding to his difficulties, he injured his leg, and had to spend months with his leg in a cast - a very hard thing for an active puppy to endure! Eventually, the woman realized that she couldn’t care for him, and she reached out for help. We welcomed him into our BARK family.

We quickly realized that Teddy needed special help. Our vet started him on medication, and we sent him to Tug Dogs, an amazing training facility where they specialize in helping anxious dogs. He made good progress during his month at Tug Dogs, and our wonderful foster people have continued to work with him. He’s a special needs boy, but he’s come a very long way, and will continue to make progress in the right forever home.

Teddy needs a calm home in a quiet neighborhood, and a patient, understanding person who will continue to work with him. He’ll do best in an adult home - he likes children very much, but the noise and excitement of children playing and running through the house would be too much stimulation for him. A secure yard where he can sniff to his heart’s content would be ideal - sniffing is soothing for him and helps him slow down and cope with stress. He’d love to have a well-adjusted dog companion to play with and be a role model for him. He mistakes cats for toys and may play too rough for them, so we’re saying no cats at this time.

Because of Teddy's special needs, we're looking for a home in Northern California, so our volunteers and Tug Dogs trainer can be available to support him and his adopter.

Teddy is a sweet, affectionate Keesie boy who loves people, dogs, and toys. For the right person who has the time and patience to spend with him, he’ll be an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime dog! If you think you and Teddy may be a good match for one another, we’d love to talk with you!
