My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are interested in adopting Ozzy please fill out our MHS K9 Adoption Application: https://mountainshumanesociety.org/adoptable-dogs/. Or you can email Jessica for an application at mhsjessica@yahoo.com.

If you love hiking and cuddling then Ozzy is your guy!!! This handsome boy is a 7 year old black lab mix and is 65 lbs of pure love! He is such a wonderful dog and very energetic! and if you got tennis balls well he loves to play fetch. He is great with other dogs and good with kids. We don’t know how he is with cats. Oh and did I mention he loves car rides.

Ozzy has some separation anxiety but has been crate trained and has been doing much better. He will also run if given the chance, so extra precautions should be taken. He will need to adjust to a new home, but he is very smart!

Ozzy’s ideal home is with an active person who will take him on walks/hikes for exercise. Someone who works from home or is not gone a lot as he is happiest when around his people! Ozzy would also love to have a dog sibling around to play with and keep him company. He would not do well as an apartment dog. He needs a house with a very secure, fenced in yard.

As I mentioned he absolutely loves to cuddle and be by his people, so you must be okay with doggy snuggles!

Are you ready to snuggle with Ozzy? If so, please fill out an application using the directions at the top of this post.April 25, 2024, 10:37 pm

Additional adoption info

All of our animals come fully vaccinated and spayed or neutered (if old enough), and microchipped. Puppies and kittens will be spayed/neutered and have all shots when they are old enough. There is an Adoption application, a quick phone interview to make sure it is a good fit, a meet and greet with the dog, then a home check, and an adoption contract. We ask for a $400 donation for adult dogs, and $500 for puppies at the time of adoption so that we can save other dogs from the shelter. More about this rescue

Dogs are man's best friend, but it is not always the other way around. The Little Red Dog was founded in memory of a little red American Pit Bull Terrier who did not make it. If you are familiar with the Michael Vick dog fighting case chronicled in The Lost Dogs: Michael Vick's Dogs and Their Tale of Rescue and Redemption. The Little Red Dog was brutally beaten to death by Vick and his cronies because she didn't want to fight.

The Little Red Dog rescues dogs; red, blue, tan, white, brown, black and all colors in between. We do not discriminate against ANY breed; that's because we are a real rescue, and we will help as many animals as we can. Our primary goal is to get them into loving homes. Our hope that some day all of them make it, but most of all, we will never forget the Little Red Dog and many others who did not.
