Say hello to Clovis or sweet Bud as we like to call him. He is a sweet natured chocolate brown /powdered sugared shepherd retriever mix who is roughly 9 1/2 yrs young. We think he's practically perfect in every way. He's great with kids and looks for ways to play with them, but isn't quite aware of his size so should be watched with small kids so he doesn't bowl them over with his enthusiasm. Clovis is not the most graceful of dogs, he flops on to things including people and with some arthritis in his hips there's a wobble now and then. However this doesn't slow him down a bit, he loves to play fetch and prances when he goes for walks. He gets along with my small Chihuahua dogs even when they are being snotty. I am sure he'd love a slightly larger dog to play with. I have no idea how he is with cats, but I'd assume if properly introduced he'd be just fine. He is completely housebroken and can be left to free range the house when you are away. He does not climb on furniture unless asked to. He will talk to you, he hoots and grumbles. He's not a barker but while he has been staying with us he has gradually taken on the role of guardian and will notify me if there is anything suspicious happening outside but once I've acknowledged that he's like "Ok done my job!" and will go back and lie down. Once he bonds with his new family he will be an excellent watch dog as he is very alert and protective of his people.
To set up a meet and greet or inquire about a dog, please first fill out an application at https://savinghoperescue.org/adopt. It doesn't obligate you, but it is the first step. We don't get to all of the inquiries but respond to all applications. Thank you for choosing to rescue!
