My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Polky is very polite.

She comes to the door to greet her fosterer when they come home or waits outside a closed door if they are in the other room.

Polky hardly meows, and when she does it's quiet.

She doesn't like being pet much or being picked up but she likes to curl next to her fosterer on the couch and sleep by their feet at night
.
Polky spends most of the time napping around the house, usually following the humans from room to room.

Although Polky is on meds for anxiety and she can be easily spooked by new sudden sounds and movements, she has not been very shy. She has a curious and playful personality.

When the humans are around, she always comes to greet new guests and new things they present to her.

Her favorite things right now are getting just the right napping spot, sitting on laptops, head scratches, catnip and playing with her little mouse-wand toy.

She can be very affectionate in her own way, by either checking up on the humans after they use the restroom, bringing small offerings (crumpled paper again!), and even cuddling with them in their sleep.

We highly recommend Polky's friendship for experienced cat owners that have a consistent environment/ routine. When given the chance, she can be the sweetest little bean.

She likes to lie next to her fosterer's leg or next to her shoes. Polky greets her fosterer at the door when she comes home by rolling around. She is becoming a lapcat too.

More about this rescue

Hyde Park Cats is a local, all volunteer group dedicated to helping stray and homeless cats in and around Chicago's Hyde Park. We received our 501©(3) status in 2014 and we were founded in 2008. See all our adoptable kitties on our webpage: http://hydeparkcats.org/adopt/

All of our cats are in loving foster homes, which means the cat or cats you adopt will be familiar with the sounds, smells and movements of life in a home and accustomed to living with humans. Our adoptable have been interacting on a daily basis with people who know this particular cat intimately, and the foster mom or dad can tell you all about the cat's individual personality, habits, preferences. You can't judge a cat by its cover! And while we can't predict the future or know everything about a cat, we can help you choose the cat who is right for you.

We have an adoption application and an adoption fee. This fee goes towards covering their vet costs. All cats adopted out by us are neutered/spayed, micro-chipped, tested for FIV/FeLV, and treated for fleas and worms.
