Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Kiefer von Kehl is a delightful 1-2 year-old smaller-sized German Shepherd. With his handsome classic looks, this young lad has an outgoing personality with a medium energy level. He's good on his leash and enjoys exploring and sniffing the outside world. Kiefer's a smart fellow who already knows several commands and gently takes the treats he earns for doing them. This boy enjoys a good petting and will reward you with lots of special kisses. A happy camper in his playgroups, Kiefer engages his doggie friends and enjoys exploring the grounds and running around. Are you looking for a hiking buddy or a running partner?
Kiefer von Kehl is in a foster home, offsite, and is NOT at our rescue location in Los Angeles.

Based on our experience, Westside's current thinking is to usually match first-time shepherd owners with a mix versus a purebred shepherd. Mixes are "softer" and somewhat more malleable. Exceptions can be made, however, for first-time adopters who show the confidence and leadership tendencies that purebreds will respect and respond to. Counselors have to use good judgment in assessing the attributes of the adopter, as well as of the dog. If you have doubts, get a second opinion from Robin or another experienced counselor.
