My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! I'm Darby! I am a cute brown tabby girl with large green-yellow eyes. I love to spend my days snoozing on a cat tree, or looking out the window at the birdies and chipmunks. I am very low-maintenance and don't require a lot to keep me happy. I came from a hoarding house with a couple dozen other kitties and, while I won't be a cuddle buddy, I will be a forever friend getting to spend my days in a quiet, happy, and loving home.

Want to know what would be even better? How about bringing me home with another one of my kitty friends? I am great with other kitties, especially the other hoarding kitties that I've shared my life and living quarters with for the last many years! (The nice people at the shelter can recommend a best buddy for me to go home with.)

Included in our adoption fee, all of our kitties are vaccinated, FELV / FIV tested, dewormed, microchipped, spayed / neutered, and checked out by a veterinarian.

Their adoption process

1.
Submit Application

Fill out our adoption application: https://bit.ly/2Z0MEvO. (We do ask for a personal and vet reference.)

2.
Meet the Pet

If you have a pet in mind to adopt, come and meet them! Or come meet everyone to find the pet(s) best matched for your family or home.

3.
Approve Application

The shelter will review your application and call your personal and vet references. (Our review generally happens within 2 days.)

4.
Sign Adoption Contract

Once approved, you’ll come to the shelter to sign your adoption contract.

5.
Pay Fee

After signing your contract, you'll pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee covers spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, and other medical care.

6.
Take the Pet Home

Take your new friend(s) home! We will provide instructions for transitioning your new pet into your home (especially with existing pets).

Additional adoption info

Please bring a carrier with you — one for each adopted pet to transport home.

We will follow up after the adoption to make sure everything is going well. If you have any questions or issues after adoption, please get in touch with us as soon as possible.

Go meet their pets

Come meet our cats and kittens any time the shelter is open to the public — no appointment necessary. We do have some cats and kittens in foster homes, and adopters with approved applications can meet them at the foster's home. (Contact the shelter to schedule time to meet them.)

As animal lovers, we have dreamt of creating a non-for-profit rescue 501(c)(3) organization in which we could place cats into forever homes with the utmost loving families. Our mission is simple: rescue, shelter, and re-home cats in need.

Our goal is to provide a cage-free and no-kill shelter environment for the kittens and cats waiting to be placed. Our area of focus is in McHenry County, Illinois.
